Aberglaslyn & Bedgellert Loop

What started out as an overcast day with the rain behind us turned into a complete washout on the Aberglaslyn trail to Bedgellert…

From the Aberglaslyn National Trust car park we headed over Aber Glaslyn Pass to the start of the hike uphill through the forest.

The path uphill bombarded us with the previous night’s rainfall, making it an ascent up a stream with waterfalls dotted here & there. It took ages to reach the top where the forest gave way to open scrubland, & that’s when the heavens opened.

We resigned ourselves to getting soaked through & marched on over slippery stepping stones until we descended into the town of Bedgellert where we took cover in the Saracens Head Hotel until the rain calmed down. We weren’t the only ones!

The circular route takes you back to the car park via the fisherman’s path by the riverside, & only at this point did I notice that the map warns of a “narrow section”… We’d come this far & certainly didn’t fancy a reverse trek through the forest river path, so we headed onward. Cue frothing white water rapids surging within inches of the fast disappearing path. Only slightly terrifying.
