Riding the trams at Crich
Crich is a fantastic day out for all the family. From riding the trams to spotting sculptures along the woodland path, there’s loads to do – so get there early!
After buying our yearly passes we spoke to a volunteer who talked us through the map where to catch the trams – paying with vintage coins. He recommended taking the tram to the Wakebridge station & doing the woodland walk to the play area. He also said that the bandstand was from Manchester & the Red Lion pub was from Stoke*. Turns out there’s a room upstairs called the Poulson room – in use as a café while they build a big café at the side.
* 01/01/2025: The Red Lion Pub came up in conversation with my uncle on New Year’s Day, as he used to have a drink in there before going to watch Stoke play back in the 1960s. It was demolished brick-by-brick in the early 1970s and finally re-assembled at Crich, opening in 2002.
We left the stroller at the Terminus station & rode a red double decker tram to the Wakebridge station as recommended. We did the Woodland Walk & picnicked in a big field with a view. We had a great time hunting sculptures & playing on the playground.
Back at the main village we saw the old trams in the depot & the exhibition hall before heading into the Red Lion Pub for halves of Primate Best Bitter from the Blue Monkey brewery.
Before leaving, we rode another tram (green single decker) all the way to the end and back. We had a look in the museum and the workshop observation deck, then it was time to grab the stroller and head back to the car.
