Riding the Ravenglass Railway
This red hot day in September was perfect for riding an open top steam train from Ravenglass to Dalegarth, followed by a hike & a picnic.
Parking up at the Muncaster Castle car park, we walked through the woods to Ravenglass to catch the train. On our way, we passed the ruins of the Ravenglass Roman Bath House that have impressively stood the test of time.
We rode the train from Ravenglass until it terminated at Dalegarth Station, where we hiked a circular route, stopping for lunch near Eel Tarn. From there, we descended to the River Esk past the Woolpack Inn to a little bridge where Derek Bird killed himself after going on a shooting spree on the 2nd of June 2010.
Legs were aching as we boarded the train back to Ravenglass. Ready for an ice cold beer!
